Gender.
Gender.
A topic I honestly did not think much about it.
Growing up in Hong Kong, I hardly see gay/lesbian among people I know.
Even when I saw them, it would be one in thirty as ratio.
It was never a topic to talk about much because it is not common.
However, when I arrived in America, this topic seems to appear bigger and popular.
Somehow, I had this interest wanted to understand it more.
I wanted to know what makes me and them different. In China, if you are different like that, you are shame to the family or in the society. Therefore, people tend to hide it and avoid talking about it.
America is opposite. People insist on sharing what they believe and want others to know their opinions, and also insist on freedom.
I was not feeling fine honestly when the same sex marriage just got legalized.
I did not understand why people would make such decision. Why the world changed that much?
I wanted to understand their point of view but i could not.
That moment, I always thought people really had no excuse to say they born that way when people can always choose.
However, I learned about their point of view after the class.
I read how a child become gay.
I read how other people affecting children to think they are attracted to their own gender.
Maybe they would not be like that or feel like that if people around them have better reaction.
Environment really matters.
Some parents got crazy when they see their little boys playing barbie and kept on saying their kids turned gay or afraid them to be gay. The parents' reaction might be the reason affecting the kid in the future to really think they are gay.
I have more understanding on them now. And I am grateful for that.
There are so many teachings from church leaders in these recent years about same sex attraction issue. I know if I don't know what to feel about this topic, I can always look up to the church leaders because they receive revelation from God and tell us what we should do in this changing world.
